So much more than word problems. Mathematical modeling provides opportunities for students to apply math to an open-ended question or problem. By considering factors that affect the situation, analyzing assumptions that must be made for the problem, finding their own data to use and then reporting results given a particular "audience", mathematical modeling demonstrates to students scenarios that answer the question, "When am I ever going to use this is real life?" I will guide teachers in the process of designing mathematical modeling scenarios and share resources I have discovered to make the process as efficient and painless as possible.
Using video lessons can provide benefits to many students in learning mathematics concepts. Whether teachers are interested in completely flipping their class, using videos regularly to support what happens in class, or occasionally including videos to enhance the learning, I am here to help. I have done it all and can share the resources that will help teachers to use videos effectively. I can also offer tips and cautions from my own experience to guide teachers on the path to successful implementation.
Priority Standards... Rubrics... Unpacking Standards... Formative Assessments... Summative Assessments... Moving Away from Numerical Scores...If your school is making the transition to standards based learning/grading/ reporting, and you feel like your head is swirling from all the changes, I can help guide the process.
Want to know about using graphing calculators for more than just quick calculations? Want to explore how technology can help you plan your lessons? Interested in how AI can be a useful tool? I can offer support and training in whatever way teachers may be interested in using technology more effectively.
How do you know if your students understand the lesson? There are more ways to find out besides the looks on their faces. I can offer resources and training in how to use those resources to create "check-in" moments during the class period. Quick and easy tasks that compliment your teaching and give you and your students immediate feedback on the student's level of understanding.
The topics on this page are areas that I have spend many hours, semesters, even years working on in my own teaching, and I want to share my experience with other teachers. But honestly, my passion is mathematics education as a whole. I am ready and willing to work with you on any topic that is of interest to your math department. Contact me and let's talk about the possibilities!
